Comfortable on the Linux command line, basic networking and distributed-systems notions. Prior Kafka exposure is a plus.

Producers/consumers, groups, delivery guarantees (at-least / exactly-once), idempotence and transactions.
4. Kafka Connect & Schema Registry
Source/sink connectors, workers and converters; schema governance (Avro) and compatibility management.
5. Retention & storage
Retention policies, log compaction, tiered storage and disk sizing.
6. Security
TLS encryption, SASL authentication (SCRAM / Kerberos / OAuth) and ACL-based authorisation.
7. Monitoring
JMX metrics, Prometheus / Grafana, alerting and consumer-lag tracking.
8. Operations & run
Partition reassignment, version upgrades, MirrorMaker 2, backup / restore and disaster recovery.
9. Performance & troubleshooting
Broker and client tuning, incident diagnosis, production guidelines and best practices.
